Heading to the beach with your furry pals? Get ready for a pawsome time in the sun, sand, and surf! Here is our essential packing guide and includes links to products we actually bought and tested with our three dogs!
Here are some essential tips and beach must-haves:
Pack the Basics: Don’t forget the essentials! Bring along a leash, collar with identification tags, and plenty of poop bags. We really like the brand Earth Rated and like that they are environmentally friendly brand and bought Earth Rated Dog Poop Bags. They come in a ton of different sizes. We like the large bags for daily use at home or on the campsite and the travel size, which is so handy when walking on the beach, hiking, car trips, you name it.
Hydration is Key! Keep your dogs hydrated throughout the day. Bring a portable water bowl and fresh water to quench their thirst. Remember, dogs can get dehydrated quickly under the sun and, especially try to keep them from drinking the salt water. As a result, I researched online for travel water bottle for our dogs and this was the ultimate game changer - Dog Travel Water Bowl Dispenser Pet Dog Water Bottle, BPA Free for our dogs the entire trip on and off the beach. We love how it also dispenses the water with a push of a button and has a pull-out bowl, which is such great feature.
Sun Protection: Just like humans, dogs need sun protection too! Apply pet-safe sunscreen to their exposed areas, such as the nose, ears, and belly. Look for sunscreen specifically formulated for dogs to avoid any harmful ingredients. I recommend Bodhi Dog Sunscreen | Large 8oz SPF 30+ Moisturizing Pet Sunscreen. It’s all natural and helps protect our dogs’ skin and coat in the hot southern sun!
Towels+ Wipes: Pack lots of extra towels for your wet and sandy buddies. We bring these microfiber quick drying towels, which was such a blessing. We have brought beach towels in the past and that was an epic failure since they get soaking wet fast! I highly recommend these -Chumia 4 Pack Dog Towel Quick Drying Dog Grooming Towels. They come in a 4 pack, which is great for multiple dogs. We also have pet wipes in our beach bags. They come in handy for just about anything! Again, we recommend the Earth Rated brand, which also has
wipes, and they are all natural and good for sensitive areas.
Beach Toys Galore: Don’t forget the toys for some splashy fun! Bring waterproof toys like floating balls or frisbees for them to fetch in the water. It’s a great way to keep them entertained and active. As a rescue dog owner of a border collie lab mix, Oliver always has a ball in his mouth. After reading countless articles online about beach safety with dogs, I discovered that you need to only bring toys that will not get super sandy in order to avoid sand impaction. That being said, I recommend only bringing water toys such as rubber Chuck-it balls with no holes in them. We brought the Chuckit Ultra Ball and Oliver was thrilled!
Snacks and Treats: Keep their tummies happy with delicious treats and snacks. Bring dog-friendly snacks and avoid sharing human food, as some items can be harmful to them. We bring their favorite treats to the beach. They are rich in nutrients and super yummy! We want them to have a fantastic time and treats make it extra special. We bring the following treats/snacks:
Brutus Broth on the go Packets that can be mixed with water to provide a delicious hydrating snack.

Three Dog Bakery Treats - they look like real cookies for humans, but our dogs love these all-natural treats!
Paw Care: The sand can get scorching hot! Protect their paws from burns by applying paw balm or using dog booties. Rinsing their paws with freshwater after each beach visit helps remove any sand or salt residue. This will also help having burned and chapped paws, which can be uncomfortable. We really like the Natural Dog Company brand. They have all natural dog products that both effective and easy to use. We bring the Paw Soother Balm with us when traveling, hiking and beyond.
Life Vest: Don’t forget to pack for water safety! We always pack life vests for our dogs especially the Basset Hounds. We recommend the Outward Hound Vest. It’s super easy to put on and we especially like that there’s a handle on top of the vest in case you need to grab them easily.
Remember, always prioritize the safety and comfort of your furry friends during your beach escapades. With these tips and beach essentials, you and your dogs are all set for an unforgettable beach adventure!
